The latest health food – SEEDS

The password to a healthy body is good nutrition.  We all have already heard about including nuts and fresh vegetables in our daily diet. It’s time we add a LITTLE more!  Seeds are a healthy and compact source of nutrients. Just think, a single seed has the power to grow into a huge tree and bear fruits and vegetables. How power-packed these seeds might be!

Here are a few seeds that I’d recommend you to incorporate in your daily diet. I assure you’ll have more than a reason to love these seeds:

  1. FLAX SEEDS

Flaxseeds are brown, shiny with a nutty flavor. These heart-friendly seeds are enriched with healthy fats, soluble fibers and absolutely cholesterol-free (brownie points!) They prevent cardiovascular diseases and also help in nourishing skin and hair.

It’s always recommended to eat these seeds in its powdered form to gain the most out of it.

2. SESAME SEEDS

We are all well aware of sesame seeds, from being used as toppings on burger buns to laddoos in Indian homes. The lesser known fact is, Sesame seeds are a rich source of calcium and can be a substitute for dairy. Both white and black sesame seeds are good antioxidants and claim to improve brain health.

3. PUMPKIN SEEDS

Mildly sweet, nutty and green-colored, Pumpkin seeds are tasty, jam-packed with nutrition. Rich source of Zinc, healthy fats and fibres are known to benefit heart and liver health, along with benefitting in joint pains, blood pressure levels, immunity, and eye and skin health.

My favourite out of all!

4. SUNFLOWER SEEDS

Pocket-friendly and with a slight peanut-y flavor, Sunflower seeds are high in energy. Profiting the body from head-to-toe, these seeds are a rich source of Vitamin E, magnesium, iron and protein. They help in keeping the stress away, boosting the immune system, providing a healthy glow to the skin and are enemies of cancer!

5. CHIA SEEDS

Chia Seeds, or sweet-basil seeds have already made their mark in the nutrition sector. From being used in energy bars to cereals, Chia seed is indeed a superfood. Crunchy and Brimming with dietary fibres, omega-3 fatty acids and anti-oxidants, these seeds help in maintaining weight and aid in blood sugar levels.

These seeds are a perfect blend of nutrition and taste as well as they are more than simple to use. Sprinkle them on salads, yogurt, dips and spreads, smoothies, oatmeals or anything to add a subtle flavor and crunch.

Time for some tiny crunches.. Pop ’em !
